Gulfport, Mississippi Mission Trip
Trinity members have taken two mission trips to
Gulfport, Mississippi to repair and rebuild houses devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. In the
Spring of 2007, Trinity
will again return to Gulfport on March 17-24 to
continue the rebuilding efforts.

Fall Apple Gleaning
Since
ancient times, there has been a practice of gleaning, or second harvest,
at the end of every growing season. The farmer brings in his crop,
but he leaves what remains behind for the poor in his community.
On Oct. 21, God provided the weather, owners of the Seaman-Flippen
Orchard gave their permission, and the Society of St. Andrew gave their
guidance, counseling, supplies and a gleaner's handbook.
With all of
the necessary aid supplied, Steve Joplin, youth director of Trinity
United Methodist Church, invited area churches and food distribution
organizations to join in a gleaning effort. The response was truly
heart warming.
Eighty-four
people from five churches and a student group from Washington and Lee
University (W&L) gleaned nearly two tons of apples. The Rockbridge
Area Relief Association (RARA) Food Pantry, Campus Kitchens of W&L, and
the Food Bank of Verona received the apples.
Thanks go to
gleaners from Waynesboro Free Methodist Church, Faith Assembly of God in
Lexington, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal
Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, and Campus Kitchens at
Washington and Lee University. Thank you also to Bob Flippen for
organizing this mission project.

A truck load of apples!
